Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES)
for Foot Drop
Advanced Neurological Rehabilitation in the Scottish Borders

HomePhysio By Nicola Ltd is proud to be an Official Allard UK Partner Clinic, becoming only the second clinic in Scotland able to assess, prescribe and fit Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) devices using the innovative ALFESS™ system.

We are committed to making specialist rehabilitation technology more accessible, ensuring people across the Scottish Borders can access advanced neurological rehabilitation closer to home.

What is Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES)?

Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) is an evidence-based treatment used to improve walking for people experiencing foot drop caused by neurological conditions.

Foot drop occurs when the muscles responsible for lifting the foot become weak or unable to activate effectively. This can cause the toes to catch on the ground, increasing the risk of trips and falls and making walking slower, more tiring and less confident.

FES works by delivering gentle electrical stimulation to the nerve supplying the muscles that lift the foot. The stimulation is timed precisely with your walking pattern, helping the foot lift at the correct moment during each step.

The result is a smoother, safer and more natural walking pattern.

What is ALFESS™?

ALFESS™ is an advanced wireless Functional Electrical Stimulation system designed specifically for people with foot drop.
Unlike traditional FES systems, ALFESS™ combines the electrodes and stimulator into one lightweight device worn comfortably just below the knee. It continuously adapts to your walking pattern, providing stimulation exactly when it is needed.

The device is:
-
Wireless
-
Lightweight and discreet
-
