Her dedication was nationally recognised in 2015 when she received the CSP Safety Representative of the Year for the UK.
During her tenure in the NHS, Nicola's commitment went beyond typical duties. She was a pivotal force in representing staff views and rights to management and NHS boards, ensuring that the voices of her colleagues were heard and acted upon at higher levels of governance. Nicola was instrumental in running staff in-services on body mapping and preventative care, initiatives that significantly reduced staff injuries by guiding them on best practices, brain storming alternative ways of working with change in working postures and practices and ergonomic techniques.
Moreover, Nicola developed pioneering systems to improve workplace safety and efficiency. She introduced a "double" traffic light system, an innovative approach to aid technical instructors and physiotherapy assistants in managing their heavy therapeutic handling caseloads. This system became a model for risk assessment and management in physically demanding healthcare environments.
Nicola also co=ordinated staff team-building activities that fostered a strong sense of community and collaboration among team members.
